Easter: Zulum Assures Boko Haram Insurgency Will Soon End

By Amos W. Peter

Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor of Borno State, has expressed optimism that the Boko Haram insurgency will soon be brought to an end, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to lasting peace and stability.

The governor made this known in an Easter message issued through his media aide, Dauda Iliya, on his Facebook page, extending warm greetings to the Christian community in the state and beyond.

Zulum emphasized the importance of unity and religious harmony, noting that the peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in Borno remains encouraging.

“It is heartening to observe the level of religious harmony between Christians and Muslims in the state. I urge all residents to sustain this spirit as we continue to take deliberate steps towards achieving lasting peace,” he said.

Describing Easter as a sacred period that reflects sacrifice, forgiveness, and love, the governor congratulated Christians on the successful completion of the Lenten season; a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

“As Christians across the world celebrate this year’s Easter which commenced on Friday, I warmly felicitate with my Christian brothers and sisters in Borno State and beyond,” Zulum said.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to citizens’ welfare, He disclosed that over 300,000 families have benefited from expanded palliative distribution aimed at cushioning the impact of economic hardship.

“This year, we have scaled up our palliative distribution to reach over 300,000 families. It is encouraging to note that many vulnerable households have benefited from this intervention,” he stated.

The governor also called for restraint and unity, especially amid the current political climate, urging residents to avoid divisive tendencies.

“Borno belongs to all of us. We must not allow enemies of peace to derail our collective progress,” he added.

Zulum commended traditional rulers and religious leaders for their roles in promoting peaceful coexistence and urged them to continue fostering unity and tolerance across communities.

He also paid tribute to the Nigerian Armed Forces, security agencies, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, and vigilantes for their sacrifices and recent successes in counterinsurgency operations.
