German champions Bayern Munich produced a dramatic comeback to defeat Real Madrid 4–3 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night, sealing a 6–4 aggregate victory.
The match started at a high pace as Arda Güler gave Real Madrid an early lead just 45 seconds into the game after capitalizing on a defensive error.
However, Aleksandar Pavlović quickly responded to Bayern with an equalizer five minutes later.
Real Madrid regained control midway through the first half when Güler scored a stunning free-kick to make it 2–1.
But Harry Kane leveled the score again for Bayern, marking his 50th goal of the season. Before halftime, Kylian Mbappé finished a fast counter-attack to give Madrid a 3–2 lead going into the break.
The second half brought more tension as Real Madrid were reduced to ten men after Eduardo Camavinga received two quick yellow cards. The sending-off changed the game, giving Bayern a strong advantage.
Bayern took full control in the closing minutes. Brahim Díaz curled in a fine shot from outside the box to make it 3–3, before Michael Olise scored the winning goal with a powerful strike into the top corner.
The victory marks Bayern Munich’s first home-and-away wins over Real Madrid in 25 years and also serves as revenge for their elimination in 2024.
Bayern Munich will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals. In the other fixture, Arsenal advanced after a 1–0 aggregate win over Sporting Lisbon and will take on Ademola Lookman’s Atlético Madrid.
