The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has formally inducted a new set of pharmacy graduates into the profession in a ceremony marked by celebration, reflection, and a renewed call to ethical practice.
The induction, held at the universityโs indimi hall, brought together university officials, families, and representatives of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), the regulatory body responsible for licensing pharmacists in the country.
In an opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAID, professor Laminu Mele congratulated the inductees for their perseverance and dedication throughout their academic journey. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity in the practice of pharmacy, noting that the healthcare sector relies heavily on pharmacists to ensure safe and effective medication use.
The Registrar of the PCN, who administered the oath of allegiance, charged the new pharmacists to uphold the ethics of the profession and prioritize patient safety at all times. โToday marks the beginning of your responsibility to society. You must remain committed to excellence and continuous learning,โ he said.
A total of over 60 graduates from the Department of Pharmacy took part in the induction ceremony, each receiving their provisional license to practice. The highlight of the event was the oath-taking session, where the inductees pledged to adhere strictly to the standards and regulations guiding the pharmacy profession.
Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, the best graduating student Muhammed Shaltut expressed gratitude to the lecturers and parents who supported them through years of rigorous academic training. โThis induction is not just a celebration but a reminder of the responsibility we carry as healthcare professionals,โ she said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, professor Timothy Yerima also used the occasion to highlight the departmentโs achievements, including improved research output and increased accreditation standards.
Family members and well-wishers cheered as the newly inducted pharmacists were adorned with professional insignia, symbolizing their transition from students to healthcare practitioners.
The ceremony concluded with a reception, marking a significant milestone in the lives of the graduates as they embark on their professional careers.
The induction ceremony remains a key tradition in the university, reinforcing the values of discipline, competence, and service in the pharmacy profession.
