The Federal Government has clarified the correct official title of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following repeated errors by some organisations and media outlets in addressing the President.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yomi Odunuga.
According to the statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the correct appellation of the President is:
“His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Akume stressed the need for journalists and organisations to always verify official titles before publication in order to avoid unnecessary mistakes.
The SGF explained that the clarification became necessary after an error was observed in a national newspaper publication on May 7, 2026.
He also advised media organisations to confirm official information through the government’s verified communication channels to ensure accuracy in their reports.
The statement further noted that proper verification would help prevent avoidable errors and maintain professionalism in journalism practice.
