The world’s biggest fashion night returned in dazzling style as celebrities, designers and cultural icons gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the 2026 Met Gala.
In a report by BBC News, this year’s theme, “Costume Art,” alongside the dress code “Fashion is Art,” transformed the museum’s famous staircase into a theatrical runway filled with dramatic couture, artistic experimentation and headline-making celebrity appearances.
Hosted under the guidance of Anna Wintour, the annual fundraiser once again blended luxury fashion with pop culture spectacle. Business Insider reported that organisers revealed the gala raised a record-breaking $42 million for the Costume Institute, making it one of the most successful editions in the event’s history.
One of the night’s biggest highlights came when Beyoncé made a grand return to the Met Gala after years away from the event. The superstar wore a dramatic feathered cape adorned with sparkling jewels, instantly becoming one of the evening’s most talked-about figures. Meanwhile, Rihanna maintained her tradition of arriving late, closing the carpet in signature fashion and drawing massive attention from photographers and fans worldwide.

The red carpet also featured bold artistic statements from several celebrities. Kim Kardashian appeared in a futuristic orange breastplate inspired by modern art, while Bad Bunny stunned attendees with makeup effects that made him appear decades older. Naomi Osaka also impressed fashion critics with a dramatic outfit transformation midway through her red-carpet appearance, as reported by The Guardian.

Social media exploded throughout the night as fans debated the best and most controversial looks. Jisoo sparked online discussions following controversy surrounding the design of her outfit, while actress Blake Lively made headlines after experiencing a minor wardrobe malfunction reportedly assisted by Hugh Jackman.

Beyond the glamour, the gala continued to emphasise the connection between fashion and art. Curator Andrew Bolton explained that the “Costume Art” exhibition explores how clothing interacts with the human body and museum culture, encouraging guests to treat fashion as a living artwork rather than simply red-carpet attire.
As cameras flashed and extravagant designs dominated headlines, the 2026 Met Gala once again proved why it remains fashion’s most influential and theatrical night — a global stage where celebrity culture, creativity and fantasy collide.
