Borno APC Stakeholders Endorse Consensus Ahead of Party Primaries

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State have thrown their support behind a consensus arrangement ahead of the party’s primary elections, describing it as a move aimed at promoting unity and stability within the party.

In a report by Leadership Newspaper, the decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Maiduguri, where party leaders, elders, and political appointees discussed strategies for maintaining internal harmony as the primaries approach.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Babagana Zulum said consensus remained the most effective option for preserving unity among party members.

He commended party stakeholders for their continued support and dedication to the progress of the APC and the state administration.

According to the governor, while consensus remains the preferred approach, the party would consider direct primaries if agreements cannot be reached.

He also assured party members that no candidate would be imposed on any constituency, stressing that consultations with stakeholders would continue to ensure fairness and inclusiveness.

Governor Zulum urged aspirants to remain loyal to the party and maintain hope, noting that those who may not secure tickets for future elections could still have opportunities to serve in different capacities.

The governor further revealed that aspirants who willingly step down from contests may be considered for appointments and other opportunities at both the state and federal levels.

As part of efforts to facilitate wider consultations, zonal committees were constituted to engage stakeholders across the Southern, Central, and Northern parts of the state.

The meeting was attended by several key APC figures, including serving and former lawmakers, party executives, and government officials.
