The University of Maiduguri has introduced 15 electric tricycles to enhance transportation within its campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Laminu Mele, commissioned the tricycles on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the institution’s Works Department. The initiative is funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

According to a post on the university’s official Facebook page, the project is aimed at improving student mobility and providing a more affordable means of transportation across campus.
Professor Mele urged students to make responsible use of the tricycles, emphasizing that the initiative is part of efforts to cushion the effects of current economic challenges on students.
The deployment of the electric tricycles is expected to ease movement within the university and support a more convenient campus experience.
